Bio:
Beverly Caruso is a popular author and speaker. She and her husband Pete pastored two churches for a total of thirty-five years. During those two pastorates over 100 trained individuals entered full-time Christian service. They have three grown children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, many of them home-schooled. Bev shares principles she’s learned during a lifetime of study, pastoring, and relating with others. Currently celebrating fifty years of marriage and ministry, the Carusos are busy training young Christian leaders to reach their generation for Christ. Bev learned much of what she now shares about relationship during the ten years she was in the middle of five living generations. She’s also a vital part of an extended family that has ministered in over ninety nations. The Carusos themselves have ministered God’s Word in over forty countries: in villages and cities, churches and universities, offices and prisons. They’re often told, “Because your teaching is founded on the Bible, what you share applies in every culture.” Together with Pete she teaches Marriage Seminars and Leadership Seminars. Beverly has trained writers in seven countries, with students from thirty nations. Her favorite is helping others learn to write to their own people in their own language using stories and concepts unique to their culture.

Interview:
Q: What is one of your most favorite topics to write about?
A: I love writing about Relationships, especially within the Marriage and Family.
Q: Describe a highlight of your writing career.
A: I was trained by John and Elizabeth Sherrill. Five years and several books later, I assisted Elizabeth in Switzerland as she trained writers from the newly-freed Eastern European countries so they could write Christian material using their own culture, idioms, and anecdotes. The following year I was sent to Czech to train new believers in their own language (through an interpreter). We managed to have critique sessions in both languages. What a joy and honor!
Q: What are some of the benefits and challenges of writing for the magazine market?
A: Benefits: Far more readers can be reached through periodical writing than through writing books. The writer can target a chosen audience. He/she can test ideas in a small writing piece before doing the work of writing a book. The same body of material can be shaped to reach several different audiences –by careful selection and handling.
Challenges: Learning the needs and desires of the editors takes a good deal of research. Getting timely material to an editor who rejects it can cause the material to be out-dated and therefore un-salable. Keeping track of manuscript submissions, sales, and rejections takes time away from writing.
Q. Share one tip you would like to give about speaking to a group of writers.
A: Almost any group of writers will consist of would-be writers, productive writers, and skilled writers. The speaker must offer information each can use and keep it entertaining for all.
