Nancy, do you find alphabet books still being purchased regularly? I’ve read/heard that it’s really a tough sell. Do you think it’s a good market for a new author to shoot for?

Renee, because young kids still have to learn the alphabet, teachers are always interested in purchasing a fresh, new alphabet book. Just look for a publisher who puts out alphabet books and try to write on specifically targeted to fit into their product list. Sasquatch and Pelican come to mind. Also, at ALA 2008 I asked numerous publishers/editors if they would be interested in receiving an alphabet book manuscript. Every single one of them that I asked said “Yes,” even the ones who hadn’t published ABC books in awhile. Best wishes on your upcoming projects! -Nancy

Thank you! I too think there is a need for new ABC books. I have 9 grand kids. 1 to 20 years old. I have made new ones but not published them yet.
