Mary Poppins: Practically Perfect in Every Way

Even though the SCBWI Conference officially starts tomorrow morning, I’m busy packing and will leave tonight to attend the Faculty Dinner. First thing tomorrow morning, I’ll be presenting my workshop on Writing for the Religious Market. I’ll be sharing tips from my new book, Yes! You Can Learn How to Write Children’s Books, Get Them Published, and Build a Successful Writing Career, on how to get published successfully in the Religious Market. I hope you’ll stop by and say hi if you’re there!

This week here on my blog I’ve been sharing imaginary items to pack in your pretend Mary Poppins’ carpet bag to help you have Mary Poppins type of conference: Practically Perfect in Every Way. Here are a few more items to include:

Jewelry Box: Collect little moments of joy and add these to your jewelry box. Gather treasures throughout the conference to remember long after the conference is over and gone.

Apple Tree: Hand out “apples” to people everywhere you go. Say a kind word. Smile at the person next to you in line. Encourage each other as writers.

Bug Zapper: Bring your electric bug zapper to zap those feelings of jealousy, inadequacy, low self-esteem, greed, and coveting as they fly by! These little bugs zip around everyone’s head at a conference. Zap ’em quickly so they don’t bite you and steal your joy.

Sports car: Hop in, put the hood down, and enjoy the ride!

Fairy Tale Castle: Always remember to pack a fairy tale castle in your carpet bag when you’re preparing to attend a conference. After all, it’s important to dream. And dreams still do come true. You’re already on your way to making it happen!

Special Note: Be sure to stop by tomorrow on my blog and “meet” Paula Yoo. We’re celebrating the release of her brand new book. Plus, Paula Yoo is an official blogger of this year’s SCBWI conference!
