Marketing Tip #10: Book Reviews

Another great way to help promote your book is to try to make arrangements for formal book reviews.

The key is to target places that the potential readers of your new book like to read. For instance, my new book I’m currently marketing, Yes! You Can Learn How to Write Children’s Books, Get Them Published, and Build a Successful Writing Career, is targeted towards writers. And writers like to read writer’s magazines!

So I contacted a writer I admire and asked her if she’d be interested in writing a book review of my new book for a certain magazine for children’s writers. She was! And she did! I just heard that the magazine accepted her book review and will let us know when it will be published.

I also targeted The Writer. Recently, I heard from them as well. They said they didn’t have space to post a review of my book, but instead they asked for permission to quote an excerpt from my book. I will thrilled to give permission because this will in essence accomplish the same thing–get word out about my new book to the audience it’s intended for.

So put your thinking cap on and brainstorm a list of magazines or publications that the readers of your new book like to read. Start making connections to explore the possibility of getting a review of your book in those places. It will help get the word out!
