Summer is the time for writer’s conferences.

Have you ever volunteered to help at a local conference?

I volunteered to help at the very first one I ever attended and unknowingly started a wonderful journey.

Ever since then, I’ve volunteered at a number of writer’s conferences over the years. Not only have I been able to attend for free, but for some of my services I’ve actually been paid over and above the price of attending the conference for free.

Plus, volunteers usually get to hobnob with the invited authors and editors and publishers, so that perk is one that keeps me coming back to volunteer year after glorious year.

If you’ve never volunteered at a writer’s conference, or if it’s been a couple of years since you’ve volunteered at one, go ahead and make that phone call! Sign up to volunteer at a local conference. Help out and you’ll be richly rewarded.

  1. How can I find out about local or regional conferences? What type of work would a volunteer do?
